Rob joined Summit Financial as a partner in September of 2006 and has 26 years of experience working independently in the financial services industry. He brings his knowledge to his clients in an enthusiastic package.

Rob holds a Certified Financial Planner designation, (C.F.P. 2005), and a Chartered Life Underwriter designation (CLU 2020) which is an advanced tax and estate planning designation. He is a proud member and Volunteer of Advocis –the Financial Advisors Association of Canada.

Rob's Involvement in Vernon

Rob is an active volunteer in Vernon. “I come from a rural Saskatchewan community and those roots have helped to shape my beliefs. I believe it is important to contribute to your community, to make it a better place for everyone who lives there. I love sports, and helping kids and families stay active, while learning to love physical activity just seems to be a natural way for me to help.” Rob proudly holds a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Saskatchewan. He has dedicated thousands of hours to sport in BC through active coaching and coach training.

Rob is passionate about hockey and golf, and loves to cross country ski, fish, vegetable garden etc. But if you know Rob, you know that he is always game to try any new activity you introduce him to. Rob is a long-time member of the Kalamalka Rotary Club, and a member of the Board of the Vernon Golf and Country Club.

Ilona Nelson

Ilona joined Summit Financial in 2019 and has steadily grown into her role as an advisor. She is licensed to provide investment advice, including mutual funds and segregated funds, as well as insurance solutions such as life, accident, and sickness insurance. Helping families identify their financial needs and create plans to achieve their goals is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.
 
Since 2021, Ilona has worked closely alongside Rob, and they plan to continue their partnership until his retirement. As Rob’s business partner, she is happy to assist clients with their investment and insurance needs and looks forward to building lasting relationships with both existing and new clients.
 
Ilona recently assumed responsibility for the clients of Elanda Kowalchuk following Elanda’s retirement. She is excited to continue providing the same trusted guidance and support that Elanda offered over the years. To Elanda’s clients, welcome to Summit Financial. Outside the office, Ilona enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, embracing outdoor adventures in every season. Her summers are filled with hiking, camping, paddle boarding, and enjoying time at the lake. During the cooler months, she stays active as a member of the Armstrong Pickleball Club.

Tomi has been a valued member of Rob and Ilona's team for just over a year. In that time, she has embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and build meaningful connections with both colleagues and clients. Her enthusiasm for her role shines through in her commitment to providing exceptional service and making every client interaction a positive one.

Outside of work, she’s a proud mom to two very active children who keep her on her toes and bring endless energy to her life. Balancing her professional growth with motherhood, she finds joy in both roles and brings that same passion and dedication into everything she does.
